Organics Story
Founded on integrity. Grown on organics.
Founded in 1925
Kellogg Garden Products has operated as a family-owned and operated company, our roots run deep and span four generations. Established in 1925, we have remained a stable, steadfast family business guided by the core values of our founder, H. Clay Kellogg: integrity, innovation, loyalty, experience, commitment, and generosity.
These values have led our company to seek the highest level of organic certification available, not just from one agency but from two.
For over 90 years, Kellogg has remained a family business with a family-centric culture. In 1991, H. Clay “Hap” Kellogg IV, the grandson of our founder H. Clay Kellogg, became the third generation Kellogg to lead the company as CEO. His sister, Kathy Kellogg Johnson is business partner and co-owner.

A Growing Business
Kathy credits the foresight of her grandfather and father as an essential ingredient for Kellogg’s continued success. She explains, “My grandfather was very smart, and my dad was way ahead of his time.” Hap Kellogg also acknowledges the extended family of employees for helping the company thrive. “We have a lot good people here who have a great deal of passion and who care about their jobs,” he says. “By taking ownership of and pride in their roles within the company, our employees have been instrumental in the company’s growth.”
Along with a commitment to family, Kellogg shares a commitment to community — and has from the very start. In keeping with that spirit of generosity, the company donates a portion of its profits each year to a number of charitable programs and organizations, including programs to support school and community gardens.
Dedicated to the Community
Kellogg is equally dedicated to helping our professional community grow. In 1999, Kellogg bought Cascade Forest Products, located in northern California. This strategic acquisition expanded Kellogg’s offerings to include what is now, the G&B Organics line of products. With this additional product line, Kellogg has been able to better serve the independent nursery trade and landscape professionals throughout the Western U.S.
Today, we have expanded from our original base of operations in Los Angeles County and now produce and sell our organic soils and fertilizers across the entire country. Our products can be found in home centers and independent garden centers — as well as in the gardens and lawns of their customers — across these regions.

The Highest Level of Organic Certification
Despite our steady growth, Kellogg Garden Products has remained a stable, steadfast family business guided by the core values of our founder, H. Clay Kellogg: integrity, innovation, loyalty, experience, commitment, and generosity. These values have led our company to seek the highest level of organic certification available, not just from one agency but from two.
We register all of our soils and fertilizers with the California Department of Agriculture’s rigorous Organic Input Materials (OIM) review as well as with the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) — the leading independent, third-party review agency also accredited by USDA’s NOP. Kellogg is still the first and only manufacturer to have all our branded organic soils and fertilizers OMRI Listed and OIM approved making Kellogg the first to offer Proven Organic soils and fertilizers that build life in the soil, in waterways and in communities with all its products.

In 2012, Kellogg Garden Products committed to strictly follow the USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP) guidelines for organic soils and organic fertilizers for all Kellogg Garden Organics and G&B Organics branded soils and fertilizers. Every ingredient and process used to produce our organic soils and organic fertilizers in every facility, is reviewed to verify compliance with stringent federal organic standards.
