Four generations of family ownership. Organic from the beginning, and still independent.
1925, Orange County, CA: Kellogg Supply was founded by H. Clay Kellogg, a Southern California surveyor and orange farmer. The family’s path to organic soil started with a problem they knew firsthand: their trees had stopped producing because the nutrients in the soil beneath them were depleted. They turned to organic materials to bring it back to life. It worked, and the insight that healthy soil is where everything starts became the foundation of the business.
A Century of Family Ownership: A hundred years later, the company is still family-owned. The third generation, H. Clay “Hap” Kellogg IV and his sister Kathy Kellogg Johnson, lead the company today.
From Regional to National: What started in Southern California now reaches gardeners across the country. The product line has expanded but the approach hasn’t changed: proven organic soil and fertilizer, priced so that choosing organic isn’t a luxury decision.

A lot of products use the word “organic” loosely. We don’t. Every Kellogg Garden branded soil and fertilizer meets the USDA’s National Organic Program guidelines. Every ingredient and process has been verified compliant, all the way back to the source. We’re the first and only manufacturer to earn both Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) listing and California’s Organic Input Material (OIM) approval across our entire branded product line. When we say organic, there’s nothing in the bag that shouldn’t be there.
